A Neighbourhood Plan can help inform, direct and shape development but Not stop it

A Plan Cannot

  • Conflict with strategic policies in the Local Development Framework prepared by the local planning authority
  • Be used to prevent development that is included in the Local Plan (please note the South Hams Local Plan is not yet completed and will be part of the Joint Local Plan for Plymouth/South Hams/West Devon to be published in Spring 2017)
  • Be prepared by a body other than a parish council, town council or neighbourhood forum

They must comply with:

  • European Directives/legislation
  • National Legislation (Planning & Other)
  • National Planning Policy
  • Local Strategy Policy
